Vanadate and Dicyclohexylcarbodiimide Inhibit the Blue Light-Induced Depolarization of the Membrane in Pulvinar Motor Cells of Phaseolus
Laboratory of Biology, Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, Kobe Gakuin University Nishi-ku, Kobe, 651-21 Japan
Transient depolarization of cell membranes precedes induction by a pulse of blue light (BL) of pulvinar movement in Phaseolus vulgaris. The depolarization may involve the plasma membrane H+-ATPase since vanadate and dicyclohexylcarbodiimide decreased or almost completely inhibited depolarization. BL may inactivate the enzyme, thereby decreasing the turgor pressure in motor cells.
