Callus Induction by Optically Active Auxin, R-(+)-2-(2-Naphthoxy) propionic Acid

Jiro Sekiya, Kumiko Mizuno and Akikazu Hatanaka

Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, Yamaguchi University Yamaguchi 753, Japan

R-(+)-2-(2-naphthoxy)propionic acid [(+)-NOP], but not (–)-NOP, was active in inducing calli from peel tissues of cucumber fruits. The callus-inducing activity of (+)-NOP was comparable to that of 1-naphthylacetic acid. Activities of alcohol dehydrogenase and lipoxygenase increased during callus induction.
