Maize (Zea mays L. Norfolk White) roots were treated with solutions of moniliformin (a metabolite of Fusarium moniliforme Sheldon) at 0.0001 M and 0.001 M for 8, 24, and 48 h. Only a slight inhibition of division was noted in root tips treated with the lower concentration. The higher concentration caused a disruption of the spindle apparatus and consequent C-mitosis, and metaphase accumulation.
