Membrane potential properties of photomixotrophically cultured green tobacco cells with chloroplasts were studied in comparison with white tobacco cells without chloroplasts. In the dark there was almost no difference in their membrane potential properties. In the light some of the green cells showed a light-induced potential change (LPC), but other green cells did not, nor did the white cells. Our results indicate that the green cells are composed of two kinds of cells, one that shows the LPC and one that does not.
