Characterization of the mRNA for the
-Amylase from Wheat
Laboratory of Microbiological Chemistry, Mitsubishi-Kasei Institute of Life Sciences Machida-shi, Tokyo 194, Japan
Characterization of the mRNA for the
-amylase from wheat was made by fractionation of the total membrane-bound polysomal RNA and by immunoprecipitation of in vitro synthesized
-amylase by its specific antibody. The content of the mRNA for the
-amylase in the membrane-bound polysomal fraction from germinating wheat seeds was estimated as 510% of the total mRNA in this fraction. RNA, separated in high resolution on acid-urea-agarose gels by electrophoresis, was recovered from the gels by a new method. Its translation products in rabbit reticulocyte lysates were analyzed with a specific antibody against
-amylase. The size of the mRNA for
-amylase was estimated as 5.0×105 daltons.
