Relation of Glycosidases to Amaryllis vittata Pollen Tube Growth
Department of Botany, Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana, India
The role of glycosidases activity in the regulation of pollen tube extension in Amaryllis vittata during in vitro germination was investigated. No significant change in the enzyme activities (
-glucosidase,
-galactosidase, rß-glucosidase and rß-galactosidase) at different stages of tube growth was found. No increase in patent rß-glucosidase activity assayed directly in a suspension of intact germinating pollen was observed. The results are discussed in the light of the differential role of wall-bound glycosidases in cells showing overall surface growth and tip growth i.e., pollen tubes.
