Gel chromatographic behavior of pectic substances of sugar beet seedling cell walls in salt solutions of various concentrations

Hiroshi Masuda, Atsushi Nakamura and Shiro Sugawara

Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Obihiro, 080 Hokkaido, Japan

Gel chromatographic behavior of pectic substances of cell walls of sugar beet seedlings changed with the NaCl concentration. The pectic substances were eluted in the void volume of the column in the absence of salt. They were divided into two peaks when the NaCl concentration was more than 2 mM and the second peak was gradually retarded and broadened as the NaCl concentration of the eluant increased.
