Identification of N6-(3-methyl-but-2-enyl) adenosine, zeatin, zeatin riboside, gibberellin A19 and abscisic acid in shoots of the hop plant

Department of Agricultural Chemistry, The University of Tokyo Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Japan

Young shoots of the hop plant (Humulus lupulus L.) have been found to contain at least three cytokinins, one gibberellin, and abscisic acid. Two of the cytokinins were identified as zeatin riboside and N6-(3-methyl-but-2-enyl)adenosine (2iPA) based on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) after several purification steps. Another cytokinin was assumed to be zeatin from its chromatographic behavior. Gibberellin A19 was identified by GC-MS and mass fragmentography, and ABA characterized by GC-MS.
