Cytochrome components of green alga, Bryopsis maxima: Purification and properties of cytochrome f from membrane fragments1
Department of Biology, Faculty of General Education, Toho University Funabashi, Chiba 274, Japan
From the membrane fragments of the green alga Bryopsis maxima, a cytochrome which resembles cytochrome f of higher plants was solubilized with methyl ethyl ketone. The cytochrome was partly purified by ammonium sulfate fractionation, followed by gel filtration. Its properties were similar to those of the algal cytochrome f reported by Wood (26). The approximate molar ratio of cytochromes f, c-553 and chlorophyll in B. maxima was 1 : 1 : 600700.
1 In this communication, according to the recommendation by Wood (26), cytochrome f is the membrane-bound c-component and cytochrome c-55 the soluble one. In some references cited, these chloroplast cytochromes are called algal cytochrome f.
