Photoconvertible and non-photoconvertible forms of protochlorophyll(ide) in etiolated bean leaves
Laboratory of Plant Physiology, Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (Rikagaku Kenkyusho) Wako-shi, Saitama, Japan
Precursors of chlorophylls in etiolated bean leaves were studied by a sensitive technique of dual wavelength scanning of thin layer chromatograms of pigments. The photoconvertible pigments with absorption maxima at 650 and 638 nm, respectively, were identified as protochlorophyllide. A minor non-photoconvertible pigment with a maximum at 628 nm was found to be protochlorophyll.
