Complementation by protoplast fusion using mutant strains of maize

K. L. Giles

Plant Physiology Division D.S.I.R., Palmerston North, New Zealand

Further results are reported concerning the complementation occurring in heterokaryons of various maize chloroplast mutants, formed through protoplast fusion. The changes in chlorophyll content have been followed using fluorescence microscopy and the effect of actinomycin D and cycloheximide investigated. Some conclusions are arrived at about the nature of this complementation.
