Biochemical studies on mitochondria formed during aging of sliced potato tuber tissue
Laboratory of Biochemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, Nagoya University Chikusa, Nagoya, Japan
Respiratory activities in mitochondria of potato tuber tissue increased about 3-fold after aging sliced tissue for 1 day. Increased activity was insensitive to cyanide. The number of mitochondrial particles also increased during aging. It seems likely that newly formed mitochondria are heavier than pre-existing ones and that respiration in the former is insensitive to cyanide.
