Photocontrol of growth pattern in a tissue isolated from the gametophytes of bracken fern

A tissue isolated from the gametophytes of bracken fern, Pteridium aquilinum grew as unbranched filaments in red or green light, or in complete darkness. Irradiation with blue or white light led to a shift from filamentous to two-dimensional pattern of growth in the tissue.
